As a member of global society striving for sustainable development, the Mandom Group now participates in the United Nations Global Compact. We have declared our commitment to upholding and promoting the framework's ten principles in four domains − human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption − throughout our daily business activities.
At the World Economic Forum held in 1999 in Davos, Switzerland, the UN Global Compact was announced by then-United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan in response to the striking impact of globalization's negative aspects upon the world at the time. Global issues had already grown to proportions that could not be managed by a single nation-state or international organization on its own. The UN Global Compact was officially launched at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 26, 2000. It is an international framework and initiative to encourage businesses and organizations worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies. Participation is voluntary.

the UN Global Compact
|Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and|
|Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.|
|Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;|
|Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;|
|Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labor; and|
|Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.|
|Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;|
|Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and|
|Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.|
|Principle 10 Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.|
In terms of international expansion, the Mandom Group began doing business in the Philippines in 1958 and set up a local subsidiary in Indonesia in 1969. For over 50 years we have engaged in global business with a focus on Asia, based on the fundamental principle of providing useful products to Asian consumers.
Amidst recent social and market economy conditions under which globalization continues to advance, all business enterprises are being called upon to bolster adoption of a "triple bottom line" approach on a continued basis, through paying attention to social and environmental performance in addition to financial performance, as part of their corporate social responsibility. In this way, companies can fulfill their role in achieving sustainable social development.
Working to achieve social sustainability, we at the Mandom Group consider it important to carry out ongoing measures that extend beyond the framework of each individual nation as we promote business in Asia and other parts of the world.
The year 2015 is a pivotal year for the international community as a whole, with the UN set to draft new developmental targets for the year 2030 by the end of September 2015, amongst other developments.
With our participation in the UN Global Compact, we are taking a global perspective on the social issues that we face. The Mandom Group as a whole will work harder than ever to promote deliberation and action that make a useful contribution to people and the environment through CSR practices incorporated in our business activities.
