How to use the degassing caps

A variety of types of degassing caps are used, such as caps with the release mechanism built-in (Photo A), and those where the regular spray button doubles as the degassing button (Photo B) (Photo C) (Photo D), depending on the manufacturer and the product’s characteristics. The primary types used on Mandom products are described below.

Be sure to read the degassing warnings and instructions listed on Mandom spray cans before you use a degassing cap.

Always release residual gas in a well-ventilated outdoor location where there is no risk of fire.


Type A Caps

Residual gas release warnings
Ensure the can is completely empty of contents prior to release outdoors away from any fire sources
These instructions should not be used for any cap other than the cap on this product

(1) Remove the cap from the can.

(2) Press the two half-circle inserts in the surface of the cap downward to face each other under the cap, aligning them until they snap into place.

(3) Replace the cap on the can to release the residual gas.
(Beware of spray and dripping)

(4) When the sound of residual gas release is completely gone, please dispose of the can and cap according to guidelines in your local municipality.



Type B Caps

Residual gas release warning
Ensure the can is completely empty of contents prior to release outdoors away from any fire sources

(1) Unlock and align the spray button so you can see the nozzle through the cover cap.

(2) Hold the can sideways. Grasping the body portion of the can with one hand, wrap the other hand around the back of the cover cap opposite the triangle mark (as shown in photo), and pull while twisting the cover cap.

*If the button comes off with the cover cap, press down on the button through the cover cap to separate them.

(3) Align the button with the circle on the top of the cap.

(4) Replace the cover cap on the can to release the residual gas.
(Beware of spray and dripping.)


(5) When the hissing spray sound of residual gas release is completely gone, please dispose of the can and cap according to guidelines in your local municipality.



Type C Caps

Residual gas release warning
Ensure the can is completely empty of contents prior to release outdoors away from any fire sources

(1) Unlock and align the spray button so you can see the nozzle through the cover.


(2) Hold the can sideways, grip the cover with one hand, and pull off the cap with your other hand.

* If the cover comes off, put the cover back on the can.


(3) Rotate the removed cap 180 degrees, and align the circle marks on the button and top of the cap.


(4) Replace the cover and cap on the can to release the residual gas. (Beware of spray and dripping.)

(5) When the hissing spray sound of residual gas release is completely gone, please dispose of the can and cap according to guidelines in your local municipality.



Type D Caps

Residual gas release warning
Ensure the can is completely empty of contents prior to release outdoors away from any fire sources

(1) Remove the cover from the can with the button still attached.

(2) Remove the button from the cover.


(3) Align the circle marks, and return the button to the cover.

(4) Replace the cover and cap on the can to release the residual gas. (Beware of spray and dripping.)


(5) When the hissing spray sound of residual gas release is completely gone, please dispose of the can and cap according to guidelines in your local municipality.
