Here is the proper technique.
The basics
Hair dye works by stripping color from your hair as part of the coloring process. That means that even if you use it on black hair, you will notice a slight change in color afterwards. However, with hair dyeing technology today, there is a limit to the bleaching power of any hair dyeing product.
For example, if you start with dark, ashy colored hair, you’ll need to lighten it before dyeing it. The bleaching agent contained in your hair dye may not be sufficient for this.
Recommended procedure for ashy hair.
Note) To minimize damage to your hair, you should wait for a while after bleaching before using hair dyeing products (around a week).
