Why can't I release the lock on my GATSBY spray-on deodorant?

GATSBY spray-on deodorant cannisters use a locking button. See below for instructions on how to unlock it.

How to release the locking button

Grip the cap and rotate until it clicks. The button is unlocked when you can see the spray nozzle inside the cap opening. Shake the can four or five times and press the button to spray the product.
*If the cap and cover (parts labeled OPEN and LOCK) turn together, hold the cover with your hand, and turn the cap.
*Unlocking instructions are also displayed on the reverse side of the product.
